Clinton MO - As the fingers of time were marking the closing hours of Saturday, September 16, 1899, the angel of death came and touched the brow of Edward Emmett Garrett and he was healed. E. E. Garrett was born near Lewis Station, Henry County, May 28, 1859. He was the youngest son of Robt. J. Garrett and wife, pioneers of Henry County. His father was killed at Lone Jack during the Civil War. Afterwards, his mother was married to Howell Lewis, the founder of Lewis Station. He has two brothers living, R. H. of near Calhoun, and W. A., who now lives near Dayton in Cass County. May 28, 1883, he married Miss Emma T. Thornton of Vernon County and they had two daughters, one is now 14 and the other 9. Early in life, he began the occupation of school teacher and followed that career until his health would not permit it any longer. His last school was at Huntingdale where he had taught three years. It was thought best to go to some other climate, so in June last he went to Rocky Ford, Colorado where he grew steadily worse. He returned home and not long after, the summons of death called him to come up higher where he now remains at rest.
