The 1900 Federal Census for Cypress District, Nansemond Co., VA, District 24, page 58A, dated June 19, 1900 records Mag (sic) [Maggie N.] Goodman (Oct 1872 - NC/NC/NC) with her husband Isaac (? marked through - probably William J. Goodman) Goodman (Aug 1871 - VA/VA/VA) and children Chad (Nov 1893), Sue (Dec 1895), Frank (Jan 1898), and Agnes Mary (Feb 1899). Isaac and Maggie have been married for 7 years and have had 7 children of whom 5 are still living. Next door is the widower Wm Goodman (Feb 1840 - NC/NC/NC) with his daughter Sallie Goodman (April 1882 - VA/NC/VA) and son Jimmie Goodman (July 1877). Next door to that family are 2 single women, Sallie Goodman (Jan 1832 - VA/VA/VA) and her sister Mary L. Goodman (March 1853 - VA/VA/VA). Nearby are Maggie's parents, Tom (Jan 1846) and Caroline (May 1840) Doughtie with their daughter, Ava C. Doughtie (July 1881).

The 1910 Federal Census for Cypress District, Nansemond Co., VA, District 9, page 54A, dated April 27, 1910 records the widow Maggie N. Goodman (37 - VA/VA/VA) with her children Chas (16), Sarah S. (14), Willie F. (13), Agnes D. (9), Howard G. (6), and daughter William I. (2). Maggie indicates she has had 11 children of whom 6 are still living. Next door are 2 single women, Sallie A. Goodman (73) and her sister Mary L. Goodman (56).

Maggie is named in an April 4, 1914 Court Proceeding on the sale of the land belonging to her mother, Susan Caroline Doughtie. A payment was made on May 12, 1914 of $423.35 to Susan Caroline Doughtie's married daughters: Maggie N. Holland, Florence T. Lee, and A. C. Pearce.

The 1920 Federal Census for Cypress District, Nansemond Co., VA (District 17, page 169B) dated February 25, 1920 records Maggie (48 - VA/VA/VA) and John H. (51 - VA/VA/VA) Holland with son Howard Holland [Goodman] (14 - VA) and daughter Willie I. Holland [Goodman] (12 - VA) living along the Somerton and Renalson Road to the North Carolina Line. John is a farmer. Nearby is William J. Pierce (50 - NC/NC/NC) and his wife Alice (50 - NC/NC/NC).

The 1930 Federal Census for Whaleyville, Nansemond Co., VA, District 14, page 210B, dated April 14, 1930 records Maggie Goodman (57 - VA/VA/VA) and her husband William J. Goodman (62 - VA/VA/VA) Holland with son Howard Goodman (24 - VA) living along the Somerton Road from North Carolina. William is a farmer. Nearby is William J. Pierce (50 - NC/NC/NC) and his wife Alice C. (50 - NC/NC/NC). Note: The husband of Maggie, William J. Goodman is incorrect ... it should be John Hollabnd; however, Maggie's first husband was most likely William J. Goodman and thus the census taker was probably told this and mistakenly wrote William instead of John as Maggie's husband.

The WWI Draft Registration Card for Frank Goodman taken Sept 12, 1918 at the Local Nansemond Co. Board confirms the relationship with Maggie ... Frank's date of birth is recorded as August 12, 1898 and he is a self emplyed farmer living in Gates Co., NC. His nearest relative is Maggie Holland who is living in Gates Co., NC.
