The 1860 Federal Census for Henderson District, Granville Co., NC records W. D. (60) and Fanny (50) Wortham with children John (17), Richard (15), Bettie (11), and George (10). William is rather wealthy with real estate valued at $39,600 and personal property at $12,200.
The 1870 Federal Census for Henderson District, Granville Co., NC records William D. (70) and Fanny A. (60) Wortham with children Richard (26), Bettie (22), and George F. (21). After the Civil War, William has lost much of his wealth as shown by real estate valued at $3,000 and personal property at $500.
William D. Wortham's will was dated September, 1877, Warren County Will Book 23, p. 285.
