Alexander W. Wortham
Alexander W. Wortham enlisted as a Private on April 6, 1862 at the age of 25. On May 20, 1862 he was transferred to Company K, 54th Infantry Regiment North Carolina. He reported as absent on June 15, 1862 (Estimated day) and hospitalized on December 6, 1862 at Richmond, VA. He was furloughed on December 28, 1862 at Richmond, VA and hospitalized on April 18, 1863 at Richmond, VA and again on May 8, 1863 at Richmond, VA. He returned to service on May 14, 1863 and became a POW on November 7, 1863 at Rappahannock Station, VA. He was confined on November 11, 1863 at Point Lookout, MD and paroled on September 18, 1864 at Point Lookout, MD. He was then exchanged on September 22, 1864 at Varina, VA and hospitalized once again on September 24, 1864 at Richmond, VA. He died of disease Company K, 54th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on September 28, 1864 in Richmond, VA.
