The 1900 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., Va. records his name as Walter K. Adkins and his date of birth as July 1897 but his WWI Draft Registration taken Sept. 12, 1918 lists July 5, 1899. The draft registration form records his age as 19 but an added note is written that states his age as 21 as of July. He indicates his full name as Walter Keen Adkins and that he is employed by his mother, Mrs. Nannie B. Adkins, and is tall and slender with blue eyes and light hair.
The 1910 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., VA, District 89, page 68B, dated April 16, 1910 records Walter K. Adkins (11) living with his mother Nanniue B. Adkins (46) and his brother Lecther W. Adkins (19). Nanie indicates she has been married once for 1 year and has had 2 children both of whom are still living. Nearby are Thomas (40) and Nannie B. Adkins (42) with children Archie (20) [and his wife Della (18)], Woody W. Adkins (19), Anderson G. Adkins (16), Joseph L. Adkins (14), and Thomas C. Adkins (12). Also in that household is Thomas' mother-in-law, the widow Permelia F. Rigney (64).
The 1930 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, District 5 records Walter K. Adkins (32) living with his mother, Nannie B. Adkins (62), and her husband of 20 years, Thomas P. Adkins (60). Thomas is a Farmer while Walter is a Preacher and listed as single. [This is not Walter K. Adkins parents.]
