The 1910 Federal Census for Union Hall, Franklin Co., Virginia, District 47 records Bennie F. (35) and Lillie M. (31) Adkins with children Vincent (12), Charlie C. (8), Virgie M. (6), Mosby G. (3), and Mary E. (1 1/12). Bennie and Lillie have been married 13 years and have had 6 children of which 5 are still living.

The WWI Draft Registration for Benjamin Franklin Adkins records his date of birth as 1872. He is living with his wife, Lilly May in Sago, Franklin Co., VA. He is tall and slender with gray eyes and light hair.

The 1920 Federal Census for Union Hall, Franklin Co., Virginia, District 63 records Benjaman F. (45) and Lillie (40) Adkins with children Vincent (21), Charlie C. (18), Virgie M. (15), Mosby G. (13), Mary E. (10), John T. (8), Willard T. (5), Otis C. (2 11/12), and Ruby E. (7/12).

By 1930, Ben and Lillie have returened to Pittyslvania Co.: The 1930 Federal Census for Tunstall, Pittsylvania Co., VA, District 27 records Ben F. (56) and Lillie M. (51) Adkins with children Moseby (23), Mary (21), John T. (18), Willard (15), Otis (13), and Ruby (10) on the Whitmill and Danville Road. Next door is son Charlie Adkins (28) and his wife, Ethel (23), and children Charlie (2 2/12) and Clara (6/12). Bennie and Lillie have been married 35 years.

The 1940 Federal Census for Tunstall, Pittsylvania Co., VA, District 72-38, page 547A, dated April 15, 1940 records Benjamin (65) and Lillie (62) Adkins with children Mose (33), Mary (31), and grandson Charlie Adkins (12) on Road 851. Mose is a Spinner at the Cotton Mill earning $560 working 40 weeks during the last year.

Benjamin F. Adkins Rite This Afternoon
Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Adkins, who died at his home in Whitmell Saturday afternoon, were to be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home with interment in the family cemetery near Callands.
The 77 year old farmer had been in declining health four years and confined to his bed since October.
Mr. Adkins was a native of Callands but spent much of his life in the Sago community. He was a son of the late Caleb Adkins and Elizabeth Napper (sic) Adkins. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
The deceased was survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Jones Adkins, and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. E. S. Eanes of Draper N. C., Mrs. J. R. Mills, Mrs. Mary E. Adkins and Mosby Adkins, all of Whitmell, J. T. Adkins of Ringgold, Willard Adkins of Halifax and Otis Adkins of Danville route two. Twenty-two grandchildren are left.

ERNA SCEARCE ADKINS
July 11, 1927 - February 22, 2012
Erna Scearce Adkins, 84, of 196 Bowl Drive Dry Fork, VA died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at her residence.

She was born July 11, 1927 in Pittsylvania County a daughter of Wade Hampton Scearce and Annie Rebecca Riddle Scearce. Mrs. Adkins had lived her entire life in the Whitmell community and was retired from Whitmell Elementary School where she had worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Whitmell Christian Church and the ladies auxiliary at the church.

She was loved by all and was a wonderful care giver to her family.

She was married to Mosby Green Adkins who died in May 1977. Also preceding her in death was a son, Clifton Hugh Adkins; two brothers, Hampton and James Scearce and three sisters, Leuna McBride, Geneva Brown and Reba Goad.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie A. Keatts, and husband Floyd of Dry Fork and Rebecca A. Goss of Danville; a brother, Harry Scearce of Dry Fork; five grandchildren, Clifton Douglas Adkins, Tonya Keatts, Ray Keatts and Stacey, Brandon Keatts and Timothy Goss; six great-grandchildren, Cole Adkins, Alexia Hawker, Dalyla Hawker, Hunter Keatts, Leila Keatts and Briella Keatts and a very special caregiver, Videl.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. from the Whitmell Christian Church by Minister Tim Oakes. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.

The family suggests memorials to Whitmell Christian Church. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Adkins family.
