Charles Weldon Akers, 94, of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 10, 2004 with his loving family surrounding him. His son Lowell J. Akers preceded him in death along with his father and mother, Dillard and Sallie Akers; brother, P.D. Akers, Jr.; sister, Eleanor Bowling. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Fralin Akers, Rocky Mount; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Marvin Foster, Martinsville, Sylvia and Wayne Wray, Rocky Mount; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Kenneth and Helen Akers, Rocky Mount, Jack Weldon and Judy Akers, Wirtz, Al K. and Marie Akers, Boones Mill; grandchildren, B. Elizabeth Nichols, Gregory L. (Mary) Akers, Tammy M. (Kelvin) Pruett, Kimberly D. (Joe) LaCroce, Kevin T. (Angela) Akers, Steven L. (Kerri) Foster, Susan F. (Eric) Lane; great-grandchildren, Travis J. (Antonia) Nichols, Carmen N. Akers, Kyle T. Akers, Ally Foster, Paige Foster; great-great-grandchildren, Noah J. Nichols, Nyomi E. Nichols, Nevin J. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday with Revs. Melvin Harris, Brad Dulaney, Paul Stone, Pat Tony and Robert Williard officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, Va. 23058. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
