Charles Weldon Akers, 94, of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 10, 2004 with his loving family surrounding him. His son Lowell J. Akers preceded him in death along with his father and mother, Dillard and Sallie Akers; brother, P.D. Akers, Jr.; sister, Eleanor Bowling. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Fralin Akers, Rocky Mount; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Marvin Foster, Martinsville, Sylvia and Wayne Wray, Rocky Mount; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Kenneth and Helen Akers, Rocky Mount, Jack Weldon and Judy Akers, Wirtz, Al K. and Marie Akers, Boones Mill; grandchildren, B. Elizabeth Nichols, Gregory L. (Mary) Akers, Tammy M. (Kelvin) Pruett, Kimberly D. (Joe) LaCroce, Kevin T. (Angela) Akers, Steven L. (Kerri) Foster, Susan F. (Eric) Lane; great-grandchildren, Travis J. (Antonia) Nichols, Carmen N. Akers, Kyle T. Akers, Ally Foster, Paige Foster; great-great-grandchildren, Noah J. Nichols, Nyomi E. Nichols, Nevin J. Nichols; sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma A. Montgomery, Beatrice Akers, Ruby Prillaman and husband, Jack, Merle Prillaman; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Herbert (Doris) Akers, Edward C. (Irene) Akers; sisters-in-law, Nellie F. Jenkins, Dora Fralin; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday with Revs. Melvin Harris, Brad Dulaney, Paul Stone, Pat Tony and Robert Williard officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, Va. 23058. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.

He was born to Dillard Akers and Sallie Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, P.D. Akers Jr.; and a sister, Eleanor Bowling; and a son, Lowell J. Akers. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Mildred Fralin Akers of Rocky Mount; two daughters, Janice Foster of Martinsville and Sylvia Wray of Rocky Mount; three sons, Charles Kenneth Akers of Rocky Mount, Jack Weldon Akers of Wirtz and Al K. Akers of Boones Mill; three sisters, Thelma A. Montgomery, Beatrice Akers, Ruby Prillaman; two brothers, John Herbert Akers and Edward C. Akers; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service chapel. The Revs. Melvin Harris, Brad Dulaney, Paul Stone, Pat Tony and Robert Williard will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
