General Notes:
The 1850 Federal Census, Henry County, Virginia taken August 1, 1850 lists Marcella E. Minter (8/12 years old) with parents William (22) and Julia H. (20). Even though her headstone read "1848", I believe her actual year of birth to be 1849 ... this would also be consistent with a Jan 1849 marriage for her parents.
Marcella is listed as Marcella E. Belcher in the 1920 Federal Census and Macela in the 1930 census where she is living with her daughter Hattie's family ... see general notes on her son-in-law, Alfred H. Meador.
Marcella and Charlie came to live with Sallie and Dillard after their home burned around 1925. Marcella was living with her daughter, Hattie, at the time of her death as told by Bea Akers in March 2004 interview.
In a recollection by Mary Lou Adkins Hagen, Marcella was known as Marcella Ella by daughter Jaynie Belcher. In a Nov. 2004 conversion, Desmond Kendricks, Archivist for Henry Co., VA, relates that Marcella was known as "Ella".
