The 1850 Federal Census for Henry County, Virginia taken August 1, 1850 lists Marcella E. Minter (8/12 years old) with parents William (22) and Julia H. (20). William is a farmer with real estate valued at "blank" and is the owner of 2 slaves. The family is living next door to Julia's parents, Adam and Elizabeth Law; Adam Law (64), Elizabeth Law (53), Nancy O. Law (13), and Sarah E. Law (6). Adam Law is a farmer with real estate valued at $4,000 and is listed as the owner of 3 slaves. He is listed as Capt. Adam Law.

The 1860 Federal Census for Henry County, Slave Schedule lists William Minter as having 4 slaves, 1 slave house, and employing 2 black men. The 1860 Federal Census for Henry County, Breckinridge P.O. page 39 records William Minter (35) with wife Julia [Law] (30) and children Marcella (9), Peyton (7), and David (3). William is a farmer with real estate valued at $2,000 and personal property at $4,000 including 4 slaves.

The 1870 Federal Census for Henry County, Leatherwood, page 76B records W. S. Minter (43 - Farmer) with Julia A. (39) and children Peyton (17), David (13), James (10), and John (7).

The 1880 Federal Census for Henry County, Leatherwood, Dist 129, page 63A records William S. Minter (51 - Farmer/Preacher) with Metty (27 - VA) and children David W. (21), James B. (19), and John (17). William and Metty indicate they were married during the census year.

The 1900 Federal Census for Henry County, Leatherwood, Dist 51, page 63A records William S. Whister [Minter] (Oct 1828 - Farmer) with Lucinda (Jan 1836) and son Silas R. Minter (Dec 1886). Sons John (and his wife Mary), David, and James are living next door.

The 1910 Federal Census for Henry County, Leatherwood, Dist 67, page 63A records William S. Minter (81 - Farmer) with Lucinda (72) and sons James (49) and Silas R. Minter (23). Son John M. Minter (46) and his wife Mary (41) with their children Vaura (6) and Doolie (3) live on one side and son David W. Minter (51) is on the other side of his listing on the census record.

By 1920 William Minter has passed away and his 3rd wife, Lucinda, is living with David W. and James G. Minter, William's sons by his 1st wife: The 1920 Federal Census, Henry County, Leatherwood, Dist 112, page 153A records the widow Lucinda Minter (82) living with James G. (58) and David W. Minter (60). Son John M. Minter (57) and his wife Mary A. (51) with their children Velma A. (16) and Dasia N. (13) live next door.

Billy Minter is buried at the family cemetery above the William Minter House where Leatherwood Creek crosses Rte 57 about 3 miles north of Dyers Store Road in Henry Co., Va. The house is on the western side of Rte 57 about 1/2 mile north of the intersection with Rte 619 (Lawrence Drive). His headstone reads: W S Minter "A sinner saved by grace if saved at all."
