In their later years, Thelma and her sister Bea lived together at the Montgomery Family Farm in Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Va. Health concerns brought about a move from the home place in 2004. In March 2004, several months before the decision to move, this researcher spent a day at the farm visiting with Thelma and Bea. They were delightful and shared many family pictures and stories.

Thelma Akers Montgomery, 93, of Boones Mill, died Thursday, April 28, 2005. She was born November 23, 1911, a daughter of the late Peter Dillard, Sr. and Sally Belcher Akers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, C. Daniel Montgomery; a sister, Eleanor A. Bowling; two brothers, Weldon Akers and P. D. Akers, Jr. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of the Boones Mill Christian Church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jean Montgomery; her grandsons and their spouses, Ben and Amy Montgomery, Steve and Hope Montgomery, Rocky Mount and Charles and Nadine Montgomery, Albany, N.Y.; her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose Montgomery; sisters, Beatrice Akers, Rocky Mount, Ruby Prillaman, Vinton, and Merle Prillaman, Roanoke; brothers, John Herbert Akers, Culpeper, and E.C. Akers, Blue Ridge. Funeral services will be conducted from Boones Mill Christian Church, 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. James E. Compton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Boones Mill Christian Church Capital Fund, 7950 Grassy Hill Road, Boones Mill, Va. 24065. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount.

Thelma married Charles Daniel Montgomery, son of Thomas Franklin Montgomery and Sallie A. Bowman, in 1941. (Charles Daniel Montgomery was born on 25 Aug 1910 in Franklin Co., VA and died in Jul 1984 in Boones Mill, Franklin Co., VA.)
