RICHMOND - Betsy Garrett Myers, 76, died March 19, 2008 in Richmond, Va.
She was born Oct. 11, 1932, in Eden, N.C. to Bolyn and Bess Fuquay Garrett. A graduate of George Washington High School and Averett College in Danville, Va., she also attended Westhampton College (University of Richmond) and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, with a major in chemistry.
After college, she worked as a chemist at the Harshaw Company, in the hospital lab at St. Lukes, and as an engineer at GE. She also taught high school math and assisted as a substitute teacher throughout her children's time in school.
She married Duane W. Myers of Brookville, Pa. on Aug. 28, 1954, and lived much of her life in Ohio, moving frequently over the years. An avid horticulturalist and flower judge, Betsy attained the status of Life Master, specializing in Japanese arrangements and daffodils, of which she personally raised over 300 varieties. She and her husband were active golfers for many years, member of Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield, Ohio.
Betsy is survived by her husband Duane and three children, Liz Myers and her husband, Piero Pierandrei of Washington, D.C.; Lynn Myers; and Mike Myers and his wife, Becky, all of Richmond; three grandchildren; a sister, Anne Bailey of Greensboro, N.C.; and a brother, Robert (Bob) Garrett, of Danville, Va. Her brother, William (Bill) Garrett predeceased her in 1983.
The funeral will be held at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. David Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will be at the family farm near Madison, N.C. on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Virginia are suggested.
Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Betsy married Duane Willard Myers on 28 Aug 1954 in Danville, VA. (Duane Willard Myers was born on 24 Aug 1928 in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio, died on 1 May 2013 in Richmond, VA and was buried in Garrett family farm near Madison, N.C.)
