The 1940 Federal Census Danville, Ward 8, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 106-24A, page 360A, dated April 11, 1940 records William B. (39 - NC) and Bessie F. (36 - NC) and children Betsy L. Garrett (7 - NC), Anne B. (4 - VA), William B. Jr. (6/12 - VA), and Robert C. (6/12 - VA) living at 330 Marshall Terrace [across the street from his brother, Robert P. Garrett]. Also in the household is brother-in-law James H. Fuquay (25 - NC). The house is valued at $3,000. William and Bessie have completed 4 years of high school. They indicate that they were living in the same house as of April 1, 1935. William is employed as a Proprietor of a Leaf Tobacco Warehouse having earned $0 working 26 weeks during the last year. James is an Auto Salesman and has earned $1,800 while working 52 weeks in the last year.

Garrett Rites Set Tomorrow At Madison
Local Tobacconist Killed In Mishap
Final services will be conducted from Ray Funeral Home in Madison, N. C., tomorrow at 2 p. m. for William Bolyn Garrett, prominent Danville tobacconist who lived at 330 Marshall Terrace. Burial will be at the family cemetery near Madison.
He was crushed to death when his tractor overturned yesterday afternoon on his farm at Madison. He was terracing some land at the time and was dead before the large machine could be uprighted.
In addition to his local interests, he was connected to the market at Fairmont, N. C.
A native of Rockingham county, he was born April 14, 1900, a son of the late Joseph Walton Garrett and Sally Jarrett Garrett. He moved to Danville at the age of 18, and became affiliated with Producers Tobacco Company, Inc. He was promoted to secretary-treasurer of Producers, a post he held until 1947 when he became affiliated with Virginia-Carolina Warehouse.
He was a member of the Dan River Lodge No. 129 A. F. and A. M. of Madison, N. C., the Danville Lodge of Elks and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Fuqua Garrett, two daughters Betsy Lee Garrett, Ann Bolyn Garrett, and twin sons, William Bolyn Garrett, Jr., and Robert Cage Garrett.
He also leaves a brother, Joseph W. Garrett, of Raleigh, assistant Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles for the state of North Carolina; two half brothers, A. E. Garrett, Robert P. Garrett of Danville; and a half sister, Mrs. Nannie G. Reynolds, of Madison, N. C.

William married Bessie Lee Fuqua, daughter of Daniel Garrett Fuqua and Ida Lee Wilson, circa 1929. (Bessie Lee Fuqua was born on 26 Jun 1903 in New Bethel, Rockingham Co., N.C and died on 3 May 1987 in Danville, Danville City, Virginia.)
