Robert Cage "Bob" Garrett, age 71, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon in the Danville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Danville on September 22, 1939, a son of the late William Bolyn Garrett and Bessie Fuquay Garrett.
Bob was a 1957 graduate of George Washington High School and a 1961 graduate of Virginia Tech. After graduation from college he began a career in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of major.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a member of Danville Golf Club where he enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his twin brother, William Bolyn "Bill" Garrett and a sister, Betsy Garrett Myers.
He is survived by a sister, Anne Garrett Bailey of Greensboro, NC, two nephews David K. Bailey and his wife Lisa, of Stokesdale, NC and Michael D. Myers and his wife Becky of Richmond, VA, three nieces Elizabeth L. Myers and her husband, Piero of Severino Marche, Italy, Lynn L. Myers of Richmond, VA and Celeste B. Collins and her husband Carlton of Asheville, NC , one brother-in-law Duane Myers of Richmond, and a number of great nieces and great nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11 A M at the Garrett Family Cemetery located off Route 704 near Madison, NC, with the Reverend David K. Bailey officiating.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral home on Tuesday , June 14, from 7 to 8:30 PM.
