The land that Jesse Myers lived on was originally purchased from Indians by Samuel Whip on June 20, 1744. He called the land "LongValley" and it included 25 acres. The deed is dated February 25, 1745. On November 18, 1762, John Hawkins purchased the 25 acres plus additional acres totalling 1190 acres. He called the land "Peach Brady Forest".
Jesse enlisted in the U.S. Army in Baltimore on Aug. 29, 1917. He served in WWI in Company C of the Machine Gun Battalion, 29th Division, 112th Regiment.
Jesse was a partner with Louise A. Shafer of Shafer's Dry Goods Store. Louise was the daughter of his sister Arlene.
The store first owned and operated by Harry Shaffer, Shaffer & Company, was taken over by Jesse D. Myers at the death of Harry Shaffer. (see notes on Jesse's father, Harry, for 1930 & 1940 census facts.)
The 1930 United States Federal Census, Maryland, Carroll Co., Woolerys (District 5, page 72A) records Jesse and family living on Eldersburg State Road (Currently Rte 32).
The WWII Draft Registration Card (for men born on or after April 28, 1877 and on or before February 16, 1897) for Jesse David Myers dated April 27, 1942 lists his date of birth as August 19, 1896 in Uniontown, Maryland. He is living with his wife, Mrs. Jesse D. Myers at RFD 6, Washington Road, Westminster, Carroll Co., Maryland. He is working for himself at 81 East Main Street in Westminster. His physical description is 5' 11", 155 lbs with blue eyes, brown hair and ruddy complexion.
