Mariah Louise Rawls
The 1900 Federal Census for Franklin, Southampton Co., Va., District 60, page 140B records the widow M. L. Pretlow (Dec 1853) with sons J. E. (Nov 1880) and Sam B. (Sept 1886) boarding in the home of W. J. M. (Dec 1867) and G. E. (March 1872) Holland. G. E. Holland is actually Mariah's daughter, Gertrude Pretlow, who has married William J. M. Holland. William and Gertrude have been married for 6 years and have had 2 children.both of whom are still living. Emily C. Daughtrey writes in 1944: "Mariah Rawls, daughter of Andrew Jackson Rawls, married Jim Pretlow, and had children Joel, John, Sam, and Essie. Essie married Bill Holland and had children Stanley, William, Joel, and Mariah."
Mariah married James Thomas C. Pretlow. (James Thomas C. Pretlow was born about 1847, died in 1894 in Southampton Co, VA and was buried in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Franklin, Virginia.) |
