Obadiah (Isaiah) Cramer/Creamer
- Born: 22 Jul 1827, Pennsylvania
- Marriage: Mary Ann Hamilton on 5 Dec 1854 in Stark Co, Ohio
- Died: After 1880, Medina Co, Ohio
General Notes:
This researcher believes that the individual listed here is NOT a son of George & Elizabeth Cramer but will leave him in this family history to clarify research ... clarification is written below:
The Obadiah Cremer listed in the 1850 cenus for Cumberland Co., PA (see notes on his father, George Cramer, for 1850 census facts) is quite possibly Isaiah Creamer, born July 22, 1827, who is listed in the Biographical Annals of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and married Mary Ann Hamilton in 1854. They moved to Ohio and resided for some time in Wadsworth, Medina Co., Ohio. The 1850 Federal Census records future wife Mary Hamilton living with her family in Tuscarawas Township, Stark Co., Ohio: The 1850 Federal Census for Tuscarawas, Stark Co., Ohio, page 170B records Mary Hamilton (19 - PA) living with her parents John (47 - PA) and Elizabeth (43 - PA) Hamilton with siblings John (16 - PA), Louisa M. (13 - AP), Luther (11 - VA), Josephus (8 - Ohio), and Angeline (3 - Ohio). John is Lutherin Clergy and has real estate valued at $1,500. It is of interest that by 1860 John and Elizabeth are living in Wadsworth, Medina Co., Ohio: The 1860 Federal Census for Wadsworth Township, Medina Co., Ohio, page 6A records John Hamilton (57 - PA) with his wife Elzabeth (53 - PA) and John R. (27 - PA), Luther D. (22 - VA), Joseph M. (16 - Ohio), Elizabeth A. (13 - Ohio), and a domestic, Mary A. Hamilton (24 - NY). While this seems to be their daughter, Mary, the New York birth indicates it is not. Note that daughter, Mary A. Hamilton, is married to Isaiah Cremer and by 1880 they have moved to Medina Co. The father, John, is listed as a Lutherian (sic) Clergyman and has real estate valued at $3,000 and a personal estate of $300.
On the other hand: The 1860 Federal Census for Waynesville, DeWitt Co., Illinois records an Obadiah Cramer (34 - PA) (indexed as Bramer at ancestry.com) ... no other record for this individual has been found except Obadiah Cramer is named as a brother living in Illinois in the will of his sister, Mary Cramer in Urbana, Ohio, in 1892. The Isaiah Creamer described above, at the beginning of these notes, is most likely a different Creamer but will be left in this study for research purposes. It should be noted that the images for these records from the 1860 census at ancestry.com are not in the correct order ... image 13 of 23 records Obadiah Cramer at the bottom of the page while the next image (14 of 23) is NOT the page of the census. You must go to the next image (15 of 23) to find Obadiah's wife and children: Sarah A. Creamer (26 - Ohio) with sons George F. Creamer (4 - Ohio) and John O. Creamer (2 - Ill). This is clearly the correct family in that they have the same dwelling # and Family #. It is of interest that this family can be followed through later census records. Obadiah is no longer listed but Sarah and the two boys remain in DeWitt Co. and Sarah remarries. The 1870 Federal Census for Waynesville Township, DeWitt Co., Illinois, Clinton P. O. records Sarah A. Groves (34 - Ohio) and her sons George F. (15 - Ohio) and John (12 - Illinois) Cramer. Nearby is Walker Atchison (indexed as Atchnson at ancestry.com) who will become her husband: The 1880 Federal Census for Waynesville Township, DeWitt Co., Illinois, District 80, page 480A records Sarah A. Atchison (40 - Ohio) married to Walker Atchison (38 - Illinois). Also in the household is Richard Atchison (14 - Illinois) and John Cramer (21 - Illinois/PA/Ohio). It appears that George F. Cramer went to Nebraska: The 1880 Federal Census for Olive Branch, Lancaster Co., Nebraska, District 245, page 381A records George F. (24 - Ohio/PA/Ohio) and Sarah P. (20 - Ohio/PA/PA) Cramer as farmers with no children. The 1900 Census records the widower Walker Atchison still in Waynesville while John Creamer appears to have married and moved to Momence, Kankakee Co., Illinois: John Creamer (March 1858 - Illinois/PA/Ohio) with wife Minnie (May 1867 - Illinois/NH/NH) and son Herbert J. Creamer (March 1900). John and family remain in Kankakee, Illinois: The 1930 Federal Census for Lankakee, Kankakee County, Illinois records John W. Cremer (73 - Illinois/PA/Ohio) with his wife Minnie Cremmer (62 - Illinois/Mass/Mass) living at 380 North Sixth Avenue. Also in the household is their son Herbert E. Cremer (28 - Ill) and his wife Jessie F. (27 - Iowa/Nebraska/Canada). John and Minnie have been married for 40 years while Herbert and Jessie for 3 years. The WWI Draft Card Registration for Herbert Ephraim Cremer records his date of birth as Feb 17, 1900 and living at 380 North Sixth Avenue. His nearest relative is Minnie E. Cremer (mother). Interesting to note the Illinois death index records: CREMER JOHN W M/W UNK 2460131 1930-05-27 KANKAKEE KANKAKEE 30-05-29 CREMER MINNIE L F/W UNK 0034602 1945-09-18 KANKAKEE KANKAKEE CREMER HERBERT E M/W UNK 0020869 1947-05-25 KANKAKEE KANKAKEE

The 1900 Federal Census for Michigan, Calhoun Co., Battle Creek Ward 4, District 36 records a Clarence Cremer (June 1865-Ohio-Carpenter). Clarence is a widower.

The 1930 Federal Census for Virginia, Rockbridge Co., Natural Bridge, District 9 records Clarence H. (72) and Ada (61) Creamer (indexed as Cromes at ancestry.com) with children Latney (24), Ray (22), and Theodore (18).
