General Notes:
The 1900 Federal Census for Perry Co., Lawrence Co., Ohio (ED73, page 148B) records James M. (May 1847) and Margaret (Jan 1849 - Ohio/Germany/VA) Melvin with children Charles (March 1875), Nicklas (June 1883), Aseneth (Aug 1885), Margaret (Jan 1888), and Chester A. (April 1893).
The 1910 Federal Census for Perry Co., Lawrence Co., Ohio (ED88, page 275A) records the widower James Melvin Sr. (62) with his daughter Margaret Hankins (23) and her new husband Harrison B. Hankins (21). Also in the household are grand children (sic) Chester A. (17) and Almeda (3) Melvin. Actually, Chester is James M. Melvin Sr.'s son and it appears that Almeda is as well. The 1920 census indicates Almeda is James Sr.'s daughter: The 1920 Federal Census for Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio (ED104, page 303A) records the widower James Melvin (72) with what appears to be a new wife, Mary A. Melvin (67 - KY/KY/TN) and his daughter Almeda (13) and step son Walter H. Slusher (12 - KY/KY/KY) living on Rock Camp Road.
James married Margaret Fetters, daughter of Nicholas Fetters and Rebecca. (Margaret Fetters was born about 1849 in Ohio and died circa 1907 in Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio.)
