MARIA PRETLOW HOLLAND MATTHEWS
FRANKLIN - A funeral service for Maria Holland Matthews was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with Rev. Richard Diekkman and Dr. Ira D. Hudgins officiating. Wright Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Matthews died Sunday morning in a hospital.
A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was educated in the Franklin Public Schools and Virginia Interment College in Bristol. She was the daughter of the late William Joseph Moore Holland and Essie Pretlow Holland.
She was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, a charter member of the Franklin Literary Club, a member of the Southampton Hospital Auxiliary, Southampton Historical Society, and the Virginia Museum.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Roy Thomas Matthews Jr. of East Lansing, Mich.; two grandchildren, Randolph and Elizabeth, also the East Lansing, and a brother, Stanley T. Holland of Franklin.
