(31 - NC) and daughter Laura B. Garrett (11 - NC) living at 329 Marshall Terrace [across the street from his brother, William B. Garrett]. The house is valued at $4,000. Robert and Laura have completed 4 years of high school. They indicate that they were living in the same house as of April 1, 1935. Robert is employed as a Floorman at a Leaf Tobacco Warehouse in Sales of Leaf Tobacco having earned $2,200 while working 32 weeks in the last year.
From Danville Register and Bee: Sunday, December 3, 1995, page 2B 'Crickett' Garrett The graveside service for Robert Poet 'Crickett' Garrett, 94, 329 Marshall Terrace, will be conducted 2 p. m. today at Highland Burial Park by the Reverend Jack Heinsohn. He died Friday December 1, 1995, at his home. He had been in declining health for three years. Born November 3, 1901, in Rockingham County, N. C., he was a son of Joseph Walton Garrett Sr. and Sallie Elizabeth Jarrett Garrett. On December 25, 1927, he married Laura Belle Turner of Reidsville, N. C., who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Laurabeth Garrett; two brothers, William Bolyn Garrett and Joseph Walton Garrett Jr.; a half brother, Albert Earle Garrett Sr.; and a half sister, Nannie Pearl Reynolds. After graduating from high school in Madison, N. C., in 1920, he moved to Danville in 1921 and began a career in tobacco warehouse management and operation until his retirement from Producers Warehouse earlier this year, where he was secretary and treasurer. He was affiliated with "Old Producers", Virginia-Carolina warehouses in Danville and other warehouses in Kentucky, Georgia, and North Carolina. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Danville, a 50-year member and past master of Mortock Masonic Lodge No. 210, and a 50-year member of Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122. He was a member of Danville Scottish Rite and received the Knight Commander Court of Honor honor. He was also a member of the Shriner's and Elk's Club of Danville. Local survivors include a nephew, Bob Garrett of Danville; half niece Mary Glidewell of Danville; and two half nephews, Albert Earle Garrett II and William Allan Garrett, both of Danville. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert married Laura Bell Turner, daughter of James Henry Turner and Rosa Bell Wheeler, on 25 Dec 1927 in Reidsville, N.C. (Laura Bell Turner was born on 31 Aug 1907 in Reidsville, Rockingham Co., N.C, died on 13 Dec 1978 in Danville City, (Pittsylvania Co.), Virginia and was buried in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA.) The cause of her death was Cardiac Arrest / ASHD / Multiple Myeloma (7 yrs duration).
