William Maurice A. Blackwell

  General Notes:

William M. Blackwell volunteered for service March 1, 1862. He enlisted into Company K, 55th North Carolina Infantry Regiment on May 30, 1862. He received a disability discharge in July 1862 but re-enlisted in the 55th in February 1863. He was wounded at The Wilderness in May 1864 and returned to duty in July 1864. He surrendered with the remaining men of the 55th at Appomaxtox, Va. April 9, 1865.
