Lois Pritchard Carver, 91, of Montross passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and caregivers on Friday, June 28, 2013.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Arthur E. Carver Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn C. O'Dell and husband Karl, Rebecca J. Carver, and Nancy C. Weakley and husband Rhys; son Arthur E. Carver III and wife Joanne; eight grandchildren, Jennifer O. Doran and husband Dennis, Amy O. Renn and husband Dustin, Lindsay O. Saksa and husband Rob, Rebecca O. Cobble and husband Jay, Anne Carver Weakley, Sarah C. Weakley, Arthur E. Carver IV and R. Andrew M. Carver; and six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Conner Doran, Wesley, Margaret and Nolan Renn and Riley Saksa.
Lois was the youngest of the eight children of Joseph A. and Sophia B. Pritchard of Norfolk. She graduated from Maury High School and went on to study home economics at Madison College. In 1943, she returned home to work at the Norfolk Navy Yard, where she met her soon-to-be husband, Lt. Carver.
Lois was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, as well as an accomplished homemaker, seamstress, gardener and an able culinary master of wholesome, delicious food.
She was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church in Montross, where a celebration of her life will take place on Monday, July 1, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home in Montross on Sunday, June 30, from 2 to 4 p.m..
Because Lois determinedly fought Alzheimer's, with the help of dedicated caregivers, for more than 10 years and received commendable care from the Montross Volunteer Rescue Squad and Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to any of the following organizations: Alzheimer's Association, Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 103, Glen Allen, VA 23060; Montross Volunteer Rescue Squad, Box 1174, Montross, VA 22520; or Tappahannock Riverside Hospice, 618 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
