Lois Inman Carter Gregory

Amazing Grace her chains are gone. Lois Gregory our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother & Gigi was carried to her Heavenly Home in the arms of the Angels on March 21, 2014.

Lois was born April 8, 1915, in the Sandy River community of Axton, VA, the seventh of nine children to the late Fletcher H. Inman & the late Mattie Hutson Inman.

After her marriage to Paul Allen Gregory on October 30, 1946 she moved to Providence, NC where they farmed and operated a general store until Paul's death February 23, 1971. Lois was well known for her homemade yeast rolls and it gave her joy to share them with her neighbors. She was a caring and beautiful lady that was always smiling. She was also known and admired for her loving affection and devotion to her Down syndrome son Dennis. She loved her family and taught her children to do the same.

She was a member of Anderson Chapel Church and until she became a resident of Roman Eagle Health Care she attended Shady Oak Baptist Church in Providence. She fondly called her pastor Kenneth Hammock "my Kenneth".

Lois is survived by daughters Nancy Pritchett (Ricky), Paula DeMott (Ray), JoAnne Slayton (Joe), and son Gary Gregory (Kay). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and sister Anita Hopkins.

In addition to her husband and parents she is also predeceased by her sons Jimmy Ray Carter, Buddy L. Carter & Dennis Allen Gregory and sister's Jessie, Nell, Christine and brother's Edwin, Harry, Guy and an infant brother who died at birth.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Shady Oak Baptist Church 1739 Walters Mill Rd. in Providence, NC. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Nancy Pritchett 4852 Walters Mill Rd., Providence, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 24, 2014 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery 5762 Walters Mill Rd. in Providence, NC with Pastor Kenneth Hammock presiding.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in memory of Lois to Shady Oak Baptist Church Building Fund or Providence Fire & Rescue.

We will miss you Mama; you passed on your legacy in so many ways.

Lois married Paul Allen Gregory on 30 Oct 1946 in Danville City, (Pittsylvania Co.), Virginia. (Paul Allen Gregory died on 23 Feb 1971 in Providence, North Carolina.)

Lois next married Walter Irvin Carter on 9 Apr 1932 in Danville City, (Pittsylvania Co.), Virginia. (Walter Irvin Carter was born in 1909 and died in 1978.)
