Louisa Kendrick

  General Notes:

The 1850 U.S. Census for Northen District, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, page 234B records Eliza (sic) Kindrick (30) with children John (10), William (8), Massee (6), Green (3), and Betsy (3/12) living next door to Owen Adkins, Jr. and family.

The 1860 Federal Census for North District, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Museville P. O., page 179, dated July 4, 1860 records Louisa ("Lu-EYE-sa") Kindrick (Kendrick, age 40) with her children living near Owen Adkins, Jr. Desmond Kendrick, Archivist of Henry Co., VA, relates that Louisa, his great great grand mother, was Owen Adkins, Sr.'s mistress for many years. Owen built a house near his own for her and their children. They were close for many years.
The 1860 census lists Louisa's children as Sanders (20), Christopher (18), Massee (16), Green W. (14), Bettie (10), Malissa (8), and Elisha (4) all keeping the last name of Kendrick. Desmond indicates that Malissa Kendrick is his great grandmother.

The 1880 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Dist 164, page 56A, dated June 11, 1880 records Louisa Kendrick (63 - VA/VA/VA) [indexed as Lueaser Kindrick at www.ancestry.com]. She indicates she is single and can not read nor write. Next door is a single Marie A. E. Kindrick (40) with a son, Craghead Kindrick (4). Marie is probably a daughter; however, this researcher can not confirm that ... for information purposes the 1910 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, District 89, page 89A, dated April 27, 1910 records Craghead Kendrick (36) with his wife Lee (25) and children Claude (3), Lessie P. A. (2), and Novella (4/12). Craghead and Lee have been married for 10 years and have had 3 children. Also the 1900 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, ED#71, page 232B, dated June 12, 1900 records Craighead Kendrick (Feb 1876) and his wife of 0 yeras Valeris (March 1877) ... near by is John S. Kendrick (son of Louisa Kendrick) and family.
