The 1940 Federal Census for Franklin Town, Southampton Co., Virginia, District 88-11, page 188A, dated April 24, 1940 records Braxton Daughtrey (45 - VA) living with his sister, Lydia Daughtrey (59 - VA) living at 704 High Street. Braxton has completed 7 years of school as has Lydia. Braxton is working as a Book Keeper at a Lumber Mill and has earned $1,500 in the last 52 weeks. Lydia is not employed ... both are listed as single.

Obituary for LYDIA MARIA DAUGHTREY (DINES)
Miss Lydia Maria Daughtrey, 73, a resident of Franklin for the past 36 years, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Monday afternoon, July 6, after a brief illness.
A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Elizabeth Norfleet Daughtrey. She was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church and of its Woman's Missionary Society.
Surviving are two brothers, John O.H. Daughtrey and Braxton Rawls Daughtrey, both of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Miss Daughtrey were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. Harvey L. Carnes,
pastor of the deceased. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers; John Allen Daughtrey, J. Lawrence Johnson, Robert A. Johnson, Jr., Frank B. Jones, Charles R. Rawls and Edgar V. Stephenson.
