WILLIAM ALLEN DAUGHTREY
William Allen Daughtrey, 67, a well-known Suffolk insurance man, died unexpectedly at 8 o'clock Sunday morning, February 26, at Norfolk General Hospital. He was a son of the late Allen Daughtrey and Elizabeth Norfleet Daughtrey.
A native of Nansemond County, Mr. Daughtrey had wide family connections throughout this area. Coming to Franklin at the age of 21, he was employed by the Camp Manufacturing Company and also operated a grocery business for several years. In addition, he worked for some time as bookkeeper for the Brewer Jewelry Company there.
Mr. Daughtrey was prominent in the activities of the Suffolk Christian Church, being chairman of its board of deacons and a member of the Baraca Sunday school class. Keenly interested in the church, he spent most of his Sundays for several years visiting sick members of the congregation.
