bullet  General Notes:

The 1860 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, Mt. Nebo P. O., page 528A, dated July 21, 1860 records John Alexander (29) with his wife Frances (22) and children Wilmer (5), Emmaline (3), and Ida (2/12). They are living next to John's parents Thomas (61) and Hannah (55) [Hagen] Alexander and their children Mary (22), Elijah (21), Neomah [Naomi] (19), and George (17). Thomas is a farmer with real estate valued at $1,000 and a personal estate at $300. John has no real estae value in that he is living on his parents land but he does have a personal estate valued at $100.

The 1870 Federal Census for Martic Township (District 222), Lancaster Co., PA, Bethesda P. O., page 21B records John Alexander (41) with his wife Frances (38) and children Emiline (14), Ida (10), Rolandus (9), Frances (7), and John (2). John and family are one page over in the census record from his parents, Thomas and Hannah [Hagen] Alexander.

The 1880 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 169, page 394B records Jno Alexander (49) with his wife Frances (46) and children Ida (20), Rolandus (18), Lillie M. (10), John (12), Frank (8), Iowa (6), and George (3). John and family are one page over in the census record from his parents, Thomas and Hannah [Hagen] Alexander. John is a laborer. Next door is William Alexander (24) with his wife Sarah (25) and children Mary M. (4) and Howard (2). Recently married daughter, Emeline Alexander Culley is just 2 pages over in the census record (page 396B).

The 1900 Federal Census for Martic Township Southern District, Lancaster Co., PA, District 89, page 216B / 217A records John Alexander (Sept 1837) with his wife Francis (July 1840) and his son John Jr. (Dec 1867). John Jr. is listed as a cripple. John and Francis have been married for 40 years and have had 9 children of whom 7 are still living.

Note: The Dec 1837 date of birth as recorded in the 1900 census is very suspect since most census records have his date of birth around 1830.
