The Maryland Marriages (1655-1850) record at ancestry.com: Elijah Conrod, Gender: Male, Marriage Date: 21 Apr 1829, Spouse: Mary Ann Watters, Spouse Gender: Male [obviously wrong], State: Maryland, County: Baltimore ... this record is at familysearch.com (LDS) and records the marriage at First Methodist Episcopal Church, Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland.
The 1840 Federal Census for Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, District 4: Elijah Conraldt (30-40), 1 male (<5), 2 males (5-10), 1 female (<5), 1 female (5-10) [Annie?], 1 female (20-30).
The 1850 Federal Census, PA, Chester Co., Phoenixville, page 87B records Elijah (47) and Mary A. (42) Conrod with children William (19), Samuel (18), Hanah (16) [Annie], Sarah E. (14), Benj. (11), Isabella (8), and John (7). Elijah is listed as a Lab[borer]. All family members are recorded as born in PA which is incorrect - they are born in Maryland.
The 1860 Federal Census, PA, Chester Co., Phoenixville, page 659A/B records Elijah (60) and Mary A. (47) Conrad with children John (17), Randolph (8), Charles (6), and Susanna (4) Conrad. Elijah, Mary, and John are born in Maryland while the other children are born in PA. Elijah is a shoemaker and John is a Fisherman.
The 1870 Federal Census for Camden, New Jersey, Camden North Ward, page 309 records Elijah (60 - Maryland) and Elizabeth (38 - England / Wife) Conrad. Elijah is listed as "Keeps Shoe Store" and can not read or write. Mary Ann has apparently died and Elijah has remarried ... where are Randolph, Charles, and Susanna? See general notes on Elijah's son, Randolph Conrad.
The 1880 Federal Census for Camden, New Jersey, Camden County, First Precinct, Second Ward, District 41, page 91B records Elijah Conrad (70 - Maryland / Germany / Maryland) and his wife, Elizaabeth Conrad (48 - England / Scotland / England) living at 524 North Sixth Street. Elijah is listed as "Shoemaker".
Elijah Conrad is listed in the 1887, 1888 Camden City Directory as a shoemaker living at 508 North Front Street. Elijah's 2nd wife, Elizabeth G. Conrad, is listed in the 1888, 1889 and 1890, 1891 Camden City Directories living at 508 North Front Street. Her occupation is listed as "Shoes". The 1895, 1897 & 1898 Camden Directories record Elizabeth G. Conrad, 508 N Front with no occupation. After 1898, someone other than Elizabeth Conrad is living at 508 N Front.
It appears that Elijah died ca 1888 and Elizabeth continues to live at the same address running the family business for the next few years. It is of interest that next door is the Levi Hagen Family of Lancaster, PA. That family includes Elijah Conrad's grandson, Charles Levi Hagen, with his wife and children as well as Elijah's daughter, Ann R. Conrad Hagen. Perhaps Ann's husband, Levi Hagen, died (in Lancaster) and his widow moved to Camden.
Elijah apparently died ca 1888, however, as of November 2010 I have found no death nor burial record for Elijah; however, 2012 brought the 1887 death record from www.familysearch.org ... see medical notes.
