Harry T. Adkins, grandson of Greenberry, writes in the 1950s of Jack's birth, death, and the fact that he never married.
Jack's death certificate records that he was a Foreman in Road Construction and that he died of burns received in a plane crash at the Air Port in Lynchburg, VA in 1931.

FOUR KILLED IN AIR CRASH AT LYNCHBURG
Lynchburg, VA -- Crashing to earth in a clump of woods fringing Preston Glenn Airport, Lieut A. H. Mettee Jr., G. H. (Mack) Clarkson, airport pilot, Wallace Carroll, and Jack Adkins died Saturday evening in a huddle while flames of the burning monoplane formed a funeral pyre.
Impact drove all of the men forward to the motor, for the ship landed nose downward. It is believed that the blow of the crack-up rendered the men unconscious so they were spared of the misery of the flames.

Jack Adkins leaves seven brothers and sisters besides his mother, Mrs. John P. Adkins of Link road. A sister, Eleanor Frances [Adkins] was married only yesterday morning to Roland Hancock, golf professional at Oakwood Country Club. The others are Miss Mabel Adkins of Danville, Mildred Adkins of Lynchburg, E. M. Adkins of Richmond, W. R. Adkins, H. G. Adkins and F. S. Adkins, all of Lynchburg.
