General Notes:
The last conclusive record found on Frank Hagen is the 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster City, PA (see notes on his father, Levi).
I give it a 95% certainty that the following research below is Frank C. Hagen, born ca 1864, brother to my GG Grandfather, Edwin W. Hagen ... U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914 <http://www.ancestry.com> records an enlistment date of August 11, 1885 for a Frank C. Hagen in Harrisburg at the age of 21 years 3 months and born in Lancaster, PA. It looks like his occupation is "Platedriller" ... what ever that is but I may be reading that wrong. His discharge seems to read "Dischgd Aug 10, 1890 Ex. Ser. at Ft Ringgold Texas Musician Char Excellent" The phys desc is blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion and 5' 8 1/4" in height ... sounds like a HAGEN to me ... one with my YDNA!!! Unfortunately I can find no further military documents for this person. However, what appears to be this person is documented in the research notes ...
Ft. Ringgold is in Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas ... 90 miles to the north is Laredo, Texas, where a Frank C. Hagen is living as described in 1900 and 1910 Census ... see research notes in this Frank Hagen.
Research Notes:
The following is most probably our Frank C. Hagen: The 1900 Federal Census for Laredo, Ward 4, Webb Co., Texas, District 114, page 236B, dated June 5, 1900 records Frank C. Hagen (May 1865 - NJ/NJ/NJ) with his wife Juanita G. Hagen (Sept 1870 - TX/Mexico/Mexico) living at 2308 Coke Street. Frank has been married to Juanita for 10 years and is employed as a Car Repairer. They have had no children. Also in the household is a servant, Simana Garcia (Sept 1890 - TX/TX/TX) as well as borders Pedro Garcia (May 1878 - Mexico/Mexico/Mexico) and P. Reuperto Garcia (Sept 1881 - Mexico/Mexico/Mexico). Pedro Garcia immigrated in 1886 while Reuperto Garcia in 1891. They are both listed as married. The New Jersey place of birth is questionable; however, his mother had connections to New Jersey and the 1910 census below has Pennsylvania his birth place.
The 1910 Federal Census for Laredo, Ward 4, Webb Co., Texas, District 149, page 156B, dated April 16, 1910 records F. C. [Frank] Hagen (44 - PA/PA/PA) with his wife Juana Hagen (35 - Mexico/Mexico/Mexico) living at 3206 Victoria Street [now part of Laredo Community College]. Frank has been married to Juanita for 20 years and is employed as a Car Inspector for the RR [Rail Road]. They have no children. Juana indicates that she immigrated in 1883.
