According to Elizabeth Doughtie Walker in an email on Nov. 5, 2002, William went to Girard, Louisiana around 1880 and married Teresa Johnson McKay. She was probably the widow of Charles L. Mckay (1801-1880). They had a son, Richard T. Mckay (1877-1911). [Elizabeth Doughtie Walker is a great grand daughter of William H. Doughtie and Theresa Johnson]
Actually, the 1880 Federal Census for Girard, La. records a Richard J. McKay (30) married to a Theresa S. McKay (22) with children Richard T. (3) and an unnamed new born son. The 1880 Federal Census for Cypress District, Nansemond Co., Va., page 56A, dated June 27, 1880 records a William H. Doughdee [Doughtie] (born 1854 - VA/VA/VA) with wife Jennie (b 1862 - VA/VA/VA) and daughters Feloware (b 1874) and Anne Lee (b 1876). Also in the household is William's brother, Joshua L. Doughdee [Doughtie] (b 1850 - VA/VA/VA). William is the head of the family, Jennie is his wife, while Feloware and Ann Lee are their daughters. Actually, no state of birth is given to those four implying that to be Virginia. Next door is William's brother, James T. Doughtie (40) and his wife Caroline S.
