The 1850 Federal Census for Caernarvon, Lancaster Co., PA (page 399B-Aug 1850) records Levi (33) and Mary (32) Banwell [Rannels] and children Edward F. (7), Elvira (5), Elizabeth (3), Sylvester (2), and Diller (4/12-male). (The surname is indexed at anestry.com as Banwell although the actual image is clearly Rannels) Diller is quite possibly the William Rannels recorded in the Records of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA who was listed as born in 1851 and died in 1852.
The 1860 Federal Census for Caernarvon, Lancaster Co., PA (page 39), Blue Ball P. O., dated June 28, 1860 records Levi Rannels (46), his wife Mary (42) and children Edward (17), Elvira (15), Elizabeth (13), Sylvester (11), William (9), and Samuel (1). Levi's occupation is listed as Coach Maker.
The 1870 Federal Census for New Holland & Earl Township, Lancaster Co., PA, New Holland P. O., page 308B, dated August 3, 1870 records a Henry Rannels (64 - retired Coach Trimmer) in the houshold of Levi and is probably Levi's brother. The 1870 Federal Census for New Holland and Earl Townships records Levi (54) and Mary A. (53) Rannels with children Wm. H. (19), Samuel (11), and Dora (9). Also in the household is Henry (64), Elizabeth (23), and Elderia (25) Rannels.
The 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster City, PA, 3rd Ward, District 150, page 65A records Levi (63) and Mary A. (61) Rannels and daughter Dora (19) living at 324 East King Street in Lancaster.
The William's Annual Lancaster City Directory 1888 lists Rannels Levi, painter, 38 Washington.
