Captain Timothy Hill Jr.

  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Accomack Parish, Accomack Co., Va. (page 8B) records Timothy Hill Jr. (24) and wife Zipporah (19) with children John (3), Wealthy A. (1) and Mary J. (6). This of course means that Zipporah was 13 when Mary was born ... and then there is a Mary listed in the 1870 census below ... perhaps this Mary is 6 months old or not even the daughter of Timothy and Zippora. It is told that this Mary Hill married John Thomas Russell on April 1, 1859 and since she was born Aug 31, 1843 ... well ... I guess they married pretty young out on Chincoteague.

The 1860 Federal Census for Accomack Co., Va. (page 133) records Timothy Hill (38) and wife Zippora (31) with children John T. (13), Joseph (10), Andrew (3), and Daniel 9/12).

The 1870 Federal Census for Accomack Parish, Accomack Co., Va. (page 61A) records Timothy Hill (40) and wife Zippora (35) with children Joseph (18), Andrew (12), Daniel (8), Zippora (6), Mary (3), Nancy M (1), and Ann R. (1).

The 1880 Federal Census for Accomack Co., Va. (ED# 3, page 60B) records Timothy Hill (53) and wife Zipporah (49) with children Daniel (19), Mary (12), and Emma V. (8). The twins, Nancy and Ann, are no longer listed and presumed to have died.

• Occupation: Sailor (1850), Oysterman (1860, 1870, 1880, 1900).

Timothy married Zipporah Sharpley on 6 Sep 1845 in Chincoteague, Accomack Co., VA. (Zipporah Sharpley was born on 28 Jun 1829 in Virginia and died on 26 Dec 1892 in Chincoteague, Accomack Co., VA.)
