Maria Goudy appears to have moved to Iowa, probably with her brother Lewis. She can be found in 1900 living in LaPorte City, Iowa which is where Lewis is found to be living in 1918: The 1900 Federal Census for Laporte City, Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, District 3, page 26A records Marie Goudy (June 1878 - PA/PA/PA) as a house keeper for George and Louisa Lindlow living on Locust Street. It is of interest that living on Third Street near Maria is Phillip Shearer who can be found in the 1870 census living near Maria Goudy and her family in Perry Co., PA: Phillip (July 1860 - PA/PA/PA) and Annis (sic) (April 1865 - PA/PA/PA) Shearer with son Dorcia (Oct 1886 - Nebraska) and daughter Ruby (Jan 1891 - Nebraska). Also in the household is Phillip's father-in-law Thomas Edwards (Jan 1822 - PA).

It appears that Marie marries Jacob Pauls, the brother of Martha Pauls ... who married Marie's brother Lewis H. Goudy: The 1920 Federal Census for Laporte City, Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, District 3, page 18B records Marie (40) and Jacob C. (43) Pauls with children Luella M. (17), Leroy V. (16), Miriam E. (8), and Neva E. (5).

The 1930 Federal Census for Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, District 4, page 32B records the widow Marie Pauls (50) with daughters Mirian (18) and Neva (15).


The 1910 Federal Census for Laporte City, Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, District 3, page 31B records Marie (30 - PA/PA/PA) and Jacob C. (33 - Iowa/Germany/Germany) Pauls with children Luella (8 - Iowa) (indexed as Deeta) and Leroy (7 - Iowa) (indexed as Dicey). Jacob and Marie have been married for 9 years and have had 2 children.

Maria married Jacob Carl Pauls, son of Carl Pauls and Sophia Longhauff. (Jacob Carl Pauls was born on 20 Jun 1876 in Wisonsin, died in 1926 in Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa and was buried in Westview Cemetery, Big Creek Township, Black Hawk Co., Iowa.)
