The 1860 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Perry Co., Carroll Township records John Goudy living in the home of William (29) and Nancy J. (25) Brown. This is John's sister, Nancy Jane Goudy and her husband, William Brown. William and Nancy Jane have children John R. (6), Catherine S. (2), and Jacob (1). Next door is David McAllister (sic) and family. John will soon marry David's daughter, Maria: David (52 - PA) and Mary (54) McAllister with children John (23), Maria (19), Christian (21), David (11), and Franklin P. (8).
ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THIRD REGIMENT, PERRY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA The hundred and seventy third regiment was organized at Camp Curtin, in the fall of 1862. From Nov to May 1863 the unit served on guard duty at Norfolk VA and until July 9 was on provost duty. After this the 173rd guarded the Orange and Alexandria Railroad, never having seen battle. Returning to Harrisburg the regiment was mustered out after nine months service. COMPANY E, PERRY COUNTY. JOHN GOWDY mustered in 5 Nov 1862, mustered out with Company E 17 Aug 1863.
The 1870 Federal Census for Carroll Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania, New Bloomfield P. O., page 18B records John Goudy (31) married to Moriah (28) with children Mary C. (8), Laura (6), Elizabeth (4), David (2), and Annie (6/12 - March). John has real estate valued at $300 and a personal estate of $100. Nearby is David McAllister (sic) and family ... he is possibly the brother of John Goudy's wife.
The 1880 Federal Census Carroll Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania records John Goudy (41) married to Maria (39) with children Laura (15), Elizabeth (13), David (12), and Anna (10), John A. (8), Lewis (5), Susan (3), and Maria (11/12).

Three of John and Maria's children went to Iowa and one went to California: Lewis and Maria appear to have moved there ca 1900. In Iowa, the siblings married siblings: Lewis married Martha Pauls while Maria married Jacob Pauls. Pearl Goudy married fellow Perry County native John Morrison. It is not clear whether they married in Perry County before the move or after. Iowa census records indicate that John and Pearl were married and lived in Pennyslvania for several years before the move to Iowa. David Goudy moved to California ca 1900 and remained there all his life.
John married Maria(h) Catherine McCallister, daughter of David McCallister and Mary A. (Mollie). (Maria(h) Catherine McCallister was born on 27 Oct 1841 in Pennsylvania and died on 19 Apr 1917 in Carroll Township, Perry Co., PA..) The cause of her death was Chronic Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
