JAMES MCDOWELL BEALE James McDowell Beale, 70, of Franklin, passed away on March 16 at Brandywine Sanatorium, Marshallton, Delaware, after being in declining health for several years.
He was the son of the Dr. George F. and Mary Dickinson Beale of Coatesville, Penn., and was born near Pamplin, Appomattox County, Va., his parents moving to Pennsylvania in his youth. Later returning to Virginia he was married to Effie Daughtrey Beale and lived in this state until the death of his wife.
Mr. Beale is survived by one son, Edwin F. Beale of Savannah, Georgia, three daughters, Mary B. Hitchens, of Ocean View, Delaware; Emily B. Matacia, of Norfolk, and Virginia B. Conrad, of Franklin. Also surviving him are two step- daughters, three brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Holland Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, and burial was in the family cemetery near Franklin.
The pallbearers were J. Edgar Weede, Dr. J.P. Broaddus, W. Hunter Scott, Sam Cutchins, J. Dillard Riddick, Carroll H. Beale, J. Hurley Daughtrey and Romie H. Daughtrey.
