The 1930 Census for Danville, VA, Ward 4, District 10, page 224A, dated April 14, 1930 records William Young (18 - VA/VA/VA) living with his parents William L. (42 - VA/VA/VA) and Grace (38 - VA/VA/VA) Young and brother Leslie Young (16 - VA) at 337 Virginia Avenue. William is working as a Plant Wire Chief for the Telephone Company. and has been married to Grace for 18 years. Their son, William is working as a Substitute Clerk at the Telephone Company.

The 1940 Federal Census for Bedford Town, Bedford Co., Virginia, District 10-8A, page 153A, dated April 10, 1940 records William L. Young Jr. (28 - VA) as a lodger in the home of Jesse P. Ayers (57 - VA) at 412 Avenel Avenue. William has completed 4 years of college and is working in Telephone Installation at the Telephone Company having earned $1,640 during the last 52 weeks. William indicates that on April 1, 1935 he was living in Lynchburg, VA.
Published in the Daily Press on 4/10/2006: RICHMOND - William L. Young Jr., 94, of Richmond, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, in Gloucester, Va. A native of Danville, Va., Mr. Young was the son of the late William L. and Grace DeMott Young. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Life Scout Award. He earned his electrical engineering degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service and retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Army Reserves. He worked covering the state of Virginia with the C&P Telephone Company and retired after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Service Organization, where he served as president. After retirement, he volunteered at the United Way office on a daily basis for many years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. He was active at Reveille United Methodist Church as a member, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of administration board for which he served as chairman for a year. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Adkins Young; and his brother, Leslie Young of Danville, Va. He is survived by his three sons, Dr. William Lee Young III and his wife, Karen, of Hickory, N.C., Dr. Thomas Howard Young and his wife, Susie, of Gloucester, Va., and Robert Leslie Young and his wife, Douglass, of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Deborah Adkins Young, William Lee Young IV, Amanda Kristen Maples, Robert Leslie Young Jr. and Bonny Paige Young. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reveille UMC, Cary Street Road. Internment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Danville, Va. Arrangements by Biley Funeral Homes.
