General Notes:
The 1880 Federal Census for Pleasant Township, Hardin Co., Ohio, District 105, page 202B records David Cramer (22 - Ohio/PA/PA) boarding at the home of C. (42) and Elizabeth (45) Bridenbach. David is listed as single and a laborer ... this is most likely Samuel and Sarah's son in that there is a G. W. [George] Cramer on the next page on this census record (our David has a brother named George).
Apparently David makes the ca 1882 move, with his parents, to Nebraska where he meets and marries Ida Brock. David and Ida do not have any children and evently move back to Ohio, however, at his death in 1934 David does return to Nebraska for burial.
The Nebraska State Census in Midway Borough, Kilfoil Township, Custer Co., Nebraska (ED# 174, page 5) records on 4 Jun 1885 David Cramer, age 26, born in Ohio. David will marry an Ida from Iowa which could be the following [additional research indicates this is not the correct Ida ... this researcher includes the facts below for reference]: The Nebraska State Census records on 19 Jun 1885 in Victora Township,Custer Co., Nebraska (ED#170, page 6) Ida Tolley [cross referencing other census document reveals the surname to be "Filley" ... see notes on his wife, Ida May] Age: 17 Birth Place: Iowa LOCATION: Victora Township,Custer,Nebraska Date: 19 Jun 1885 Enumerator: George E. Carr Enumeration District: 170 Page: 6 Race: White Locality: Midway Borough also in the household is L (32 - Michigan) and Ellen Tolley 33 (33 - Kentucky) Tolley with children Funey (17 - Iowa), Eia (12 - Iowa), Abbie (3 - Kansas), and Peter (2 - Nebraska). This record is nearby to Levier Cramer, David Cramer's cousin.
See general notes on Levier Cramer for the Nebraska State Census of 4 Jun 1885 records ...
http://www.rootsweb.com/~necuste2/Farmers/newhelen.html 1890 Gazateer - Custer County records: D. A. Cramer & L. B. Cramer as New Helena Farmers. [These farmers are David A. Cramer (son of Samuel) & Levier B. Cramer (son of Paul)]
The 1900 Federal Census for Victoria, Custer Co., Nebraska, District 74 records David Cramer (April 1858 - Ohio/PA/PA) with his wife Ida (June 1868 - Iowa/Indiana/Indiana) farming and married for 11 years with no children. This is our David Cramer in that the 1910 census has this couple back in Hardin Co., Ohio: The 1910 Federal Census for Buck Township, Hardin Co., Ohio, District 92, page 3A records David Cramer (51 - Ohio/PA/PA) and Ida Cramer (41- Iowa/Indiana/US) farming and married for 22 years with never having any children.
The 1920 Federal Census for Buck Township, Hardin Co., Ohio, District 79, page 26A records David Cramer (61 - Ohio/PA/PA) and Ida M. Cramer (51- Iowa/Indiana/Illinois) farming.
The 1930 Federal Census for Forest Village, Jackson Township, Hardin Co., Ohio, District 16, page 145B records an Ida Cramer (62) as single and living with her brother Fred Cramer (58) and his wife Anna (57) and daughter Helen (29). Fred and Anna have been married for 33 years. All family members are born in Ohio. Earlier census records show that this is NOT our Ida M. Cramer, however, David's 1934 Ohio Death Certificate indicates his residence as Kenton, Hardin Co., Ohio. Apparently our David and Ida have moved back to Nebraska ... well, actually not ... Ida DID move back to Nebraska; however, David is hospitalized at the Toledo State Hospital ... see notes below ...
Researching Custer Co., Nebraska Cemeteries at rootsweb (http://www.rootsweb.com/~necuster/cmterys/kilfoil.htm#a) turns up David's final resting place at KILFOIL CEMETERY ... This is a public cemetery and is accessible from the road. Take highway 70/92 and go 1 mile west of Merna, Custer County, Nebraska, then turn and go north for ½ mile: David A. Cramer 1858 - 1934; Ida M., 1868 - 19__ With this clue I was able to return to the 1930 and found David's wife, Ida Cramer (indexed as Cromar), married but without David, who remains in Ohio in a Hospital ... see medical notes ... In this census Ida is listed as the sister of the head of household, George Brock:
The 1930 Federal Census for Merna, Custer Co., Nebraska, District 24 records Ida M. Cramer (61 - Iowa/Illinois/Indiana) as married and the sister to the head of hosehold, George Brock (57 - Iowa/Illinois/Indiana). Also in the household are Hazel Keener (25 - niece), Elmer Keener (28 - nephew), Harold B. Keener (5 - nephew), Clyde E. Keener (3 11/12 - nephew), Gene R. Keener (2 7/12 - nephew), and Philip H. Brock (86 - father - Illinois/Kentucky/Indiana).
A Custer County, Nebraska Web Site recorded a headstone for David and Ida Cramer. David's date of death was written as 1934 and Ida had no date of death recorded. The 1930 Federal Census for Custer County has a married Ida Cramer living with her brother but no David. This researcher requested a death certificate for David Cramer from the Nebraska Dept of Vital Statisitcs but they have no record of his death. I found the death record for David Cramer, born ca 1858 and died in 1934, in Lucas Co., Ohio. The 1930 Federal Census records David Cramer (b ca 1858 - Ohio) in The Toledo State Hospital for the Insane in Lucas Co., Ohio. This is our David Cramer. On May 15, 2007, I requested a death certificate for David Cramer who died March 27, 1934 in Lucas Co., Ohio - Volume #7465, Certificate #1822 - Ohio Historical Center 1982 Velma Ave. Columbus, OH 43211 The 1930 Federal Census for Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio, District 116 records David Cramer (72 - Ohio/US/US) living at the Toledo State Hospital for the Insane on Detroit Avenue. The death certificate for David Cramer records the following: Date of death: March 27, 1934 at the Toledo State Hospital. He is listed as married but the wife's name is unknown. His parents are Samuel Cramer and Sarah Goudy of Pennsylvania. The informant was M. P. Smith, M.D. who treated him from March 30, 1920 until his death. The cause of death is arteriosclerosis with contributions from a fall on the floor at the Hospital that resulted in a fracture of the hip. His body was to be removed to Broken Bow, Nebraska for burial.
