The Federal Census of 1850 records Jacob Essic (sic) and family living in Phoenixville Borough, Chester, PA. Daughter Mary Essick will marry James Hagen, brother of Levi, about 1867 and mother, Catherine Essick, a widow by 1860, is living with the James Hagen family in Phoenixville in 1870.
The 1850 Federal Census for Phoenixville Borough, Chester, PA, page 197A, dated August 22, 1850 records Jacob Essic (62 - PA) with his wife Catherine (47 - PA) and children Nathan (27 - PA), Sophia (22 - PA), Catherine (14 - PA), and Mary A. (14 - PA). Jacob is a laborer and Nathan is an engineer.
