Valentine probably got his name from the neighboring Valentine Gardner family.

The 1870 Federal Census records Valentine living at the home of Martin Fagan in Drumore, Lancaster Co., PA: Martin (42) and Harriet (39) Fagan with children Susana J. (19), Mary A. (17), John J. (13), Harriet L. (9), Benjamin F. (6), William G. (3), and Samuel M. (1). Also in the household is Valentine Hagen (19). John J. Fagan will marry Valentine's sister, Laura Hagen, in 1878.

The 1880 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 169 records Valentine (29) Hagen with wife Rachel (30) and daughter Margaret B. (5) living a few doors away from Uncle Albert Hagen (36) and next door to his in-laws, Ebenezer (65) and Margaret (57) Akens in Martic Township.

The 1900 Federal Census for Millersville Village, Manor Township, Lancaster Co., Pa., ED#84, page 131B records Valentine (July 1850) and Rachael (Feb 1850) and son Collins (July 1883). Also in the household is Valentine's widowed mother (actually mother-in-law), Margaret Akens (July 1820). Valentine and Rachael have been married 25 years and have had 3 children all of whom are still living, although only two, Margaret and Collins, are found in the census record.

The 1910 Federal Census for Manor Township, Lancaster Co., Pa. Distrcit 115, page 199B records Valentine (59) and Rachael (59) Hagen married 35 years having had 3 children all of whom are still alive, although none are currently living with their parents. Valentine is a farm laborer living on Frederick Street.

The 1920 Federal Census for Lancaster Co., PA, District 101, page 228A records Valentine (69) and Rachael A. (69) Hagen living on Frederick Street in Manor Township, Lancaster Co., PA. Valentine is a Tobacco Farmer. [This is currently near Millersville]
