Samuel G. Hagen Jr., 88,
World War II veteran
Samuel G. Hagen Jr., 88, of Carlisle, died Sept. 9 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community in Carlisle.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Samuel G. and Julia Wetzel Hagen. He was a graduate of Haverford High School.
Mr. Hagen retired after many years of service with Mutual of New York Insurance Co., where he held management positions.
Mr. Hagen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 17th Signal Corps as a decoder. He attained the rank of master sergeant after seven years of service.
Mr. Hagen was a former member of United Church of Christ in Carlisle. He enjoyed golfing, riding his bicycle and bowling. He was a faithful and dedicated father, taking care of his daughter's special needs.
He was the brother of the late Jean Whiteman.
Survivors: Wife of 68 years, Edna M. Davis Hagen; sons, Samuel G. Hagen of Christiana [Lancaster Co., PA], Thomas G. Hagen of Glenmoore [Chester Co., PA]; daughter, Janice Marie Hagen of York; sister, Jane Craig of Weirsdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.
Visitation: After 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial: Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
