The WWI Draft Registration Card for Edwin S. Lenox dated June 5, 1917 lists his date of birth as October 30, 1893 in Philadelphia, PA. He is living with his wife and mother at 1717 North New Kirk Street in Philadelphia, PA and is employed as a stock clerk at the Philadelphia Electric Co. His physical description is short in height and medium build with blue eyes and brown hair.
The 1920 Federal Census for Philadelphia, Pa. (ED#970, page 3A) records Edwin S. (26 - PA/PA/NJ) Lenox with his wife, Edwin (sic) M. (28 - PA/PA/PA), and mother, Mary [Hagen] Lenox (56 - NJ/PA/Maryland), living at 1715 North New Kirk Street. Mary is recorded as a widow without employment while Edwin is employed as a Store Keeper for an Electric Company.
Note: The wife's name of Edwin M. is certainly strange. And at this time Mary appears to be living with her parents in Delaware ... see general notes on Mary O'Keefe. Also ... the 1930 census below records Edwin Lenox as married but living by himself.
The 1930 Federal Census for Philadelphia, Pa. ED#420, page 7A) records Edwin Lenox living at Emerson Hall Apartments, 209 Chester Avenue. He is 36 years old and has been married for 15 years. He is listed as a buyer for an Electric Utility and married, however, neither his wife nor mother are living with him.
The WWII Draft Registration Card (for men born on or after April 28, 1877 and on or before February 16, 1897) for Edwin Samuel Lenox dated April 25, 1942 lists his date of birth as October 20, 1893 in Philadelphia, PA. He is living at the Madison Apt. Hotel at 817 St. Paul Street in Baltimore, Maryland. The person who will always know his address is Mrs. Edwin S. Lenox of 2813 W. Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. He is working for Glenn L. Martin Co. of Middle River, Maryland and his physical description is 5' 11", 180 lbs with hazel eyes and light complexion. [This is the Glenn Martin Aviation Company that designed and built many important aircraft of WWII]
