The 1900 Federal Census for Philadelphia Ward 25, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (ED# 609, Page 5A/222A) records David (36 - Sept 1863 - PA/Ireland/Ireland) and Mary A. (36 - Nov 1863 - NJ/Maryland/PA) Lenox with children Anna R. (12 - July 1887 - PA), Charles D. (9 - Nov 1890 - PA), Edwin S. (6 - Oct. 1893 - PA) and sister-in-law Agnes A. Hagen (47 - Nov 1852 / PA/PA/NJ) living at 2055 Orleans Street. In is of interest that Mary claims to have been born in New Jersey with parents from Maryland and Pennsylvania while her sister Agnes records her birth as in Pennsylvania with parents from Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The 1910 Federal Census for Ward 29, Philadelphia, PA (ED# 679, visit 128, page 47A) records Mary A. Lenox (46 - NJ/PA/Maryland) with children Charles D. (19 - PA) and Edwin S. (16 - PA) Lenox. Living in the same household is her sister Agnes A. Hagen (57 - PA/PA/Maryland) at 1718 Taney Street. Mary is listed as a bookeeper in a store while Edwin is a book keeper in an office. Charles is a machinist at a shop and Agnes is a visiting nurse and is single. It is interesting to note that Mary lists her place of birth as New Jersey. This record is also inconsistent with the 1900 census which records her mother being born in Pennsylvania and father in Maryland. Also, Mary is listed as married for 25 years but her husband, David, is not in the household. Mary indicates she has had 3 children all still living ... daughter Anna is now married ... see general notes on Anna R. Lenox.
The 1920 Federal Census for Philadelphia, Pa. (ED#970, page 3A) records Edwin S. (26) Lenox with his wife, Edwena M. (28), and mother, Mary [Hagen] Lenox (56), living at 1715 North New Kirk Street. Mary is recorded as a widow.
See general notes on her brother, Edwin W. Hagen for 1930 census facts ... she moves to Ocean City, Cape May, NJ.
In her adult life, Mary consistently lists her place of birth as New Jersey, however, in both 1870 and 1880, her parents record Pennsylvania as her place of birth.
