Angeline Rawls

  General Notes:

Emily C. Daughtrey writes that Angeline Rawls married Richard Saunders and had seven children. Two of the children died young while the others are: "Christine, Linnie, Lucey, Ethra, and Loyd".

The 1870 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 12, page 151A records Angeline (20) and Richard H. (21) Saunders living in the household of Samuel P. (73) and Nancy (59) Saunders. Also in the household is Mary E. Saunders (18). They are neighbors to the Robert (27) and Dianna (23) Rawls family as well as John A. (50) and Treacy (40) Cutchin and family.

The 1880 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 55, page 134A records Angeline (31) and Richard (31) Saunders with children Tuloro O. (10), Samuel T. (7), Lenny F. (5), and Christina (2). Also in the household is Angeline's mother-in-law, Nancy L. Saunders (61).

The 1900 Federal Census for Weldon Town, Halifax Co., North Carolina, District 40 records the widow Angelina Saunders (Jan 1848) with children Lenny F. (June 1875), Christine (May 1879), Lucy (May 1881), Mary E. (Nov 1884), and Henry L. (Sept 1888). Angelina indicates she was married for 33 years and has had 11 children of which 5 are still alive. The 5 is a little surprizing since her son, Samuel T. Saunders, in 1900 is living in Windsor, Isle of Wight Co., VA and he would make 6 still living.

Angeline Saunders is listed in the Wilmington, NC City Directory as late as 1907: Angeline Saunders wid Richard, h 509 n 4th.
Her son, Henry L. Saunders is living at the same address.

Angeline married Richard (Dick) Saunders, son of Samuel P. Saunders and Nancy, on 23 Sep 1869 in Nansemond Co, VA. (Richard (Dick) Saunders was born circa 1849 and died circa 1890.)
