The 1880 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 169, page 392B records Sam'l (31) and Jennie M. (33) Alexander with children Chester L. (9), Maris C. (7), Curtis T. (6), Laura G. (4), Minnie E. (3), Emma L. (2), and Colin C. (7/12). Samuel is listed as a farmer. Just a few pages over in the census is Royal Neel, future husband of Emma Alexnader.
The 1900 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA (ED#88, page 208B) records Samuel Alexander (June 1848) with his wife, Jennie M. [Hagen] (April 1847) and children Gertrude (Sept 1875), Minnie E. (Dec 1876), Harry B. (March 1883), Mary J. (Oct 1884) , and Charles G. (Oct 1885) living in Martic Township, Northern District, Lancaster Co., PA. Samuel, listed as a farmer, and Jennie have been married for 29 years and have had 11 children of whom 10 are still living.
The 1910 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA (ED# 119, page 17B) records Samuel Alexander (62) with his wife, Jennie M. [Hagen] (63), and recently married daughter, Mary (25), and her new husband Howard Winters (26). Samuel, listed as a General Merchant, and Jennie have been married for 40 years and have had 11 children of whom 9 are still living. Nearby are several of his children and their families: Walter Alexander (28) with his wife Daisy (24) and children J. Maria (3 - daughter) and Veryl (1 - son) married for 4 years; Harry Alexander (27) and his wife Mabel (27), married for 3 years, with his widowed mother-in-law, Isabelle McMillian (49). Also nearby is daughter Minnie [Alexander] Good with her husband, Adam, and children Bertram, Minnie, and Verna Mae.
The 1920 Federal Census records Samuel and Jennie living on Mt. Nebo Road in Martic Township next door to their son Walter and his family; Harry and Mabel have moved to Lancaster City: The 1920 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lanccaster Co., PA, District 105, page 69B records Samuel (71) and Jenny M. (72) Alexander living next door to William F. (sic) (38) and Daisy (34) Alexander with children Marie (13) and Veryl (11). Samuel and Jenny are no longer recorded in the 1930 Federal Census and thus must have passed away during the 1920s: The 1920 Federal Census for Lancaster Ward 3, Lancaster Co., PA, District 55, page 67A records Harry D. (36) and Mable M. (37) Alexander living at 415 Church Street. Also in the household is Mabel's mother, the widow Isabel McMillan (58). Harry is a House Carpenter.

Samuel Alexander, a farmer and merchant of Mount Nebo, Martic township, is one of its honorable and esteemed citizens. He was born in Martic township June 20, 1848, son of John and Susan (Zarocher) Alexander, of Martic township, of Scotch-Irish descent. John Alexander, the father, was son of John and one of a family of six children, viz., Samuel, David, James, Thomas, John and Rachel, all deceased. He was born in 1803, married Susan Zarocher in 1829 and died in 1877. They had a family of seven children, namely: Maris, who was killed while in the service of his country during the Civil War; Martha, the wife of Amos Walton, of Fulton township; Mary, the widow of Lewis Jenkins; Samuel, Rebecca J. the wife of Henry Marsh of Lancaster; John A. of Mount Nebo and Calvin, deceased. Samuel Alexander is a leading citizen of Martic township. His early rearing on the farm gave him a taste and inclination toward an agricultural life, and after finishing his school course, he engaged in farming and still owns several well improved farms in his vicinity. Mr Alexander also conducts a first-class general store in that locality, and is the postmaster of Mount Nebo, having been appointed by ex-President Cleveland. In politics he has long been recognized as an important factor in the Democratic party and at one time was the choice of the party for the State Senate. In all matters pertaining to the progress and advancement of his locality, Mr. Alexander takes a deep interest and is known as both liberal and public-spirited. On Oct. 20, 1870 Mr. Alexander married Miss Jennie M. Hagen, of Martic township, born April 3, 1847, daughter of Elijah and Sarah Hagen, and this marriage has been blessed with eleven children, ten of whom still survive, as follows; Chester L., born in 1871 of Chicago; Maris C. born in 1872, Curtis, born in 1873, Gertrude, born in 1875, the wife of William Tollinger, of Fulton township; Minnie E., born in 1876 at home; Emma born in 1878 the wife of Ray Neel, of Mount Nebo; Walter S. born in 1881; Harry B., born in 1883; Manie, born in 1884 and Charles, born in 1885. John C., born in 1879 died at the age of two years. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander are leading members of the Methodist church, where they both are active in good works. He is one of the stewards of that body and is honored and respected by a very large circle of acquaintances. Mr. Alexander is identified with these fraternal societies; The I.O.O.F. [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] of Rawlinsville; the K. of P. [Knights of Pythias], of the same place; and Lodge No. 158, Mystic Chain, of Mount Nebo.

Samuel Alexander, (John III. John II. James, John) was born . June 20, 1848.
He is a merchant and farmer. He carries on a store of General Merchandise at Mt Nebo and owns and manages two good farms lying within a half mile of his great-great-grandfather's "plantation" . He and his family live in Mt Nebo owning and occupying a very comfortable residence.
He is one of the prominent founders and members of the Methodist Church at Mt Nebo.
He is a Democrat in politics. .
On October 20, 1870 he married Miss Jennie M. Hagan, daughter of Elijah and Sarah Hagan, and neice of the wife of his uncle Thomas Alexander. Miss Hagan was born April 3, 1847. [Hand written note - Died 10/28/1924]
Samuel and his wife are very happy in their home and family life. They have had eleven children all of whom are living except three.
Their children were: Chester L. Alexander Maris Alexander Curtis Alexander Gertrude Alexander Minnie Alexander Emma Alexander John Collin Alexander, died in infancy Walter S. Alexander Harry B. Alexander Mary ("Mamie'') Alexander Charles G. Alexander.
