bullet  Research Notes:

There is a 1919 Death Certificate for a Philadelphia born baby whose mother is Sarah G. Hagen who was born in Philadelphia. The father is Granville Dougherty who was born in Baltimore and is currently working at Hog Island [Naval Ship Yard at the time]. The Census of 1920 records indicate that a Granville R. Dougherty of Philadelphia, born ca 1885 in Maryland, was married and employed as a Builder at a Ship Yard. Sarah possibly had an out of wedlock illegitimate child, perhaps even an abortion. The death certificate indicates the cause of death as "Suffocation at birth ... This child died right after birth" on November 28, 1919. The age is given as "died after birth" and there is a notation by Dr. Charles H. Wells: "never saw this child alive". The child was cremated on Nov 29, 1919 and no place of interment is indicated.
