bullet  General Notes:

Theophilus Losey Daughtrey went by TL, Losey, or T Losey. His name is sometimes listed as Lozey some earlier documents. It appears as (Mrs.) Theophelus Losy on daughter LeClaire's wedding invitation. Written on an 1887 photograph of T.L. is a birthdate of Oct. 20, 1867, however, his tombstone in Maury Cemetery, Richmond, VA records October 17, 1867.

When daughter Ethel Daughtrey Ellis was interviewed by Bo Hagen (ca 1989 in Bon Air, Va.), she was asked about "her father Theophilus". It took her by surprise and a few moments to realize "Oh! You mean my father. I never heard him called that! He was always called TL or Losey."

The Holland Peanut Company was incorporated in 1901 with Bolden R. Doughtie as president, T. L. Daughtrey as Vice-president, W. Carlton Doughtie as Secretary/Treasurer and Eli Daughtrey and David R. Roberts on the board of directors. Bolden was TL's father-in-law, Carlton was Bolden's son, Eli was TL's father, and David was Bolden's son-in-law, married to Lydia.

The 1900 Federal Census for Holy Neck, Nansemond Co., Virginia, District 27, page 126A, dated June 1, 1900 records TL and Allie Daughtrey living with Aunt Josephine Rawls Brooks in the Town of Holland: Losie (sic) (Oct 1867 - VA/VA/VA) and Alnona (June 1874 - VA/VA/VA) Daughtrey and the widow Josephine Brooks (Jan 1847 - VA/VA/VA). Losie is listed as employed as a Grocer and married 0 years ... Losey and Allie were married the previous month on May 22, 1900.

The 1910 Federal Census, Virginia, Chesterfield Co., Dale, District 4, page 56B records Theosilus [Theophilus] L. (42) and Allie D. (35) Daughtrey with children Ethel C. (9), Lyman S. (7), Garlan R. (3), and LeClair A. (1). T. L. is listed as a traveling shoe salesman. The family is next door to Joshua T. (40) and Allie B. (34) Daughtrey and their children Julian T. (12), Lulu I. (9), and Allie B. (5). Joshua will soon move back to Nansemond Co.

The 1920 Federal Census, Virginia, Chesterfield Co., Dale, ED# 9 records Theo L. (52) and Alnona (45) Daughtrey with children Ethel (18), Carroll (16), Garlan (12), Leclare (10), and Inez (5) living at the corner of Hopkins and Beulah Roads.

Endocarditis is an infection of the inner lining of your heart (endocardium).
Endocarditis generally occurs when bacteria or other germs from another part of your body, such as your mouth, spread through your bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in your heart. Left untreated, endocarditis can damage or destroy your heart valves and can lead to life-threatening complications. Treatments for endocarditis include antibiotics and, in certain cases, surgery.
Endocarditis is uncommon in people with healthy hearts. People at greatest risk of endocarditis have damaged heart valves, artificial heart valves or other heart defects.

From the Virginian Pilot (Norfolk, VA) May 25, 1900:
A County Marriage
There was a very pretty marriage ceremony day before yesterday afternoon at Liberty Spring Christian Church, Rev. H. H. Butler officiating. The principals were Mr. T. L. Daughtrey, a Councilman of Holland, and Miss Alona Daughtie, a daughter of B. R. Daughtie.
Miss Maud Norfleet [daughter of Garafelia Skinner who is the 1/2 sister to Alnona Doughtie's mother, Cornelia Octavia Wiggins] was maid of honor and J. R. Daughtrey, of Roanoke, a brother of the groom, best man. Miss Berta Ellenor played the wedding march, and Vernon Rawls and Willie Ellis were ushers.
The other attendants were Miss Myrtle Rawls with Jesse Harrell; Miss Lydia Daughtrey [T. L.'s uncle Allen Daughtrey's daughter], with Carlton Daughtie [Alnoa's brother]; Miss Verta Ellenor, with J. W. Holland; Miss Patria Rawls, with B. W. Council; Miss Emily Daughtrey [T. L.'s sister], with Robert Harrell; Miss Susie Rawls, with Rev. I. W. Johnson; Miss Nettie Savage, with D. K. Joyner; Miss Annie Cutchin, with Rev. B. F. Black; Miss Eva Barlett, with Thomas Holland; Miss Lillie Austin, with J. F. Cutchin; Miss Ava Daughtie, with Joel Harrell; Miss Lydia Daughtie, with Randolph Rawls.
Mr. and Mrs. Daughtie [Daughtrey] left for a Northern honeymoon, which will probably conclude Saturday.
